Q: Tell us about Touro College.
For the last 37 years, Touro College has been the gateway to getting a good job and having the opportunity to be a college graduate. For many of our students, they are the first in their family to go to college and graduate. Today, their lives have changed. In fact, Touro College over 17,000 students enrolled and is working to make their lives better as well. As the students have enrolled at Touro, we have expanded our programs of study to meet the needs of their curiosity. We now have a Law School, 3 Osteopathic Medical Schools, a Health Science School, School of Education, a Business School, and a Liberal Arts College. Our colleges are in the five boroughs of New York City, Nevada, California and even around the world, in Germany, France, Italy, Russia and Israel. If you want to have the skills to get a good job, then the place is Touro - NYSCAS.
Q: What is NYSCAS?
NYSCAS is New York School of Career an Applied Studies. It is a college that gives you opportunities. You can learn the skills of computer science or web publishing, and receive a degree at the same time. If you want to fulfill your dream of helping people in the community, you can get a degree in Human Services. We also have programs in Business, Psychology, Special Education, Social Sciences and Liberal Arts.
Q: That’s a lot of opportunities for students.
Yes, we understand the job market and we want our students to have successful and satisfying careers after they graduate. A college degree is important to their future and their family.
Q: Do you have any programs for exceptionally bright students?
Yes. We offer a 7-year honors track program in osteopathic medicine, which enables them to finish undergraduate and medical school in 7 years instead of the usual 8.
Q: Do you have any programs for us music lovers?
Yes, we have a very cool Digital Media Arts program. We teach the important broadcasting skills and a lot of our graduates work at radio stations. We may have one of our graduates at your station!
Q: What makes NYSCAS different than all the other colleges in New York City?
We give each student personal attention. Our staff and faculty are always available to work with the students and help them navigate their way through the admissions and registration process as well as through the work in their courses. Students are not just a number here. They are real people who have dreams, and our job is to help make those dreams come true. Also, NYSCAS is one of the most conveniently located schools in New York.
Q: Where is NYSCAS located?
We have 13 locations throughout New York City. We are known as the school that comes to your neighborhood. We are in Brooklyn (Bensonhurst, , Midwood , Starrett City), Queens ( Flushing, Forest Hills), as well as uptown and midtown Manhattan. Some of our students may live in Brooklyn or Queens, but they can go to school in Manhattan where they work if they want to. Some attend certain classes at one center and take others at a different location. You can take classes in the morning, afternoon or evenings, and at some sites, even on Sundays. We offer on-line courses. Whatever your schedule or neighborhood, we make it easy for you to attend school and get a college degree.
Q: Tell us something about the NYSCAS student.
Our student body reflects the mosaic of NYC. We have recent high school graduates, working adults, people who are looking for education to improve their lives. We have a diverse population including many international students. We are proud to have all of our New York communities represented at NYSCAS.
Q: What about the NYSCAS teachers?
Our faculty has extensive experience in many academic fields, and are dedicated to our mission to provide quality education to all students who want to learn and improve their lives.
Q: If a student wanted to transfer to your school, is this possible?
Yes, of course. Transfer credits are accepted from many accredited colleges and universities.
Q: On-the-job training is often very helpful. Do you offer internships?
Many of them. Our computer science program places hundreds of students in prominent businesses throughout the city. Our Human Services Program also offers internships in community-based programs and city agencies. Many of our students do so well they are offered jobs after their internships.
Q: If a student wants an advanced degree, can Touro help them?
Our graduates have the opportunity to continue at any of Touro’s graduate and post-graduate schools. For example, if someone wants to be a teacher in NYC, they can work toward a Master’s degree at our Graduate School of Education and Psychology. For those who want to become a Social Worker, they can apply to the Touro Graduate School of Social Work. At NYSCAS, students can also take all the pre-requisite courses for our law and osteopathic medical schools.
Q: I guess one of the most important questions hasn’t been asked yet. How can students pay for their education at Touro?
Touro works with each student and provides financial aid counseling to help them find the best way to finance their college career. State and federal financial aid is available to those who qualify. We also have a generous internal scholarship/grant program. We do everything in our power to make Touro College a place where dreams can come true.
